A customer in Cheshire came to DACT keen to renovate and take their house back to the brick where asbestos was present.
If left untouched, asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) pose little threat. However, if damaged or disturbed, it releases microscopic – yet harmful – fibres into the atmosphere, causing serious health conditions such as asbestosis, mesothelioma, and lung cancer.
Instead of stripping the interior walls to expose the bare brick and attempting to remove asbestos themselves, they did the right thing and reached out to our asbestos removal team.
After all, we are properly equipped with the latest tools and techniques to ensure this life-threatening substance is removed safely.
After speaking with the client over the phone about how we could assist them, we scheduled a suitable time to visit their property so we could closely assess the situation and provide an accurate quote.
We performed a full asbestos survey at the property – leaving no stone unturned.
Samples were taken and sent to be tested at the lab to confirm the presence of asbestos, including the type and its condition.
As the client suspected, much of the Artex found in their kitchen, diner, lounge, hallway, stairs, and landing contained asbestos. Unusually, though, the ceilings were free from ACMs.
Using our findings from the survey and asbestos testing, we made a start on removing asbestos from the walls after we’d sealed the area off to keep exposure to a minimum.
From the survey to asbestos disposal, it took our team 7 days to rid the property of asbestos. Almost two tonnes of waste was generated and the team ensured that all materials were disposed of properly and in the safest way possible.

Health and safety are paramount for us at DACT Contractors and we always carry out a risk assessment before we proceed with asbestos removal.
Because of the amount of work involved, it was inevitable we were going to be left with a lot of waste to dispose of. However, we taped up the doorways, lay polythene on the floors, and set up airlocks to minimise the mess as we moved from one room to the next.
In addition, we used only the most powerful equipment to ensure we got the job done safely. This included a negative air machine with a HEPA filter which helped to isolate the space and reduce the spread of dust and contaminants throughout the customer’s house.
An analyst also checked the air condition levels at set intervals throughout the job.
DACT is proud to serve all areas in Cheshire – ranging from Widnes and Runcorn to Sandbach and Warrington.
We have helped countless people rid their homes of dangerous asbestos materials, and we also provide asbestos services for business clients.
